Meet Our Gifted Kids: Introducing Minerva

Meet Minerva!  She’s passionate and articulate, and I get the feeling that she’s a kindred spirit of mine.  Anyone who loves writing but also struggles with perfectionism has a lot in common with me!  I particularly like her answer to #11 and I might just borrow that one from her the next time I hear the “all kids are gifted” thing.  Here is what she had to say:

1.  What is your passion or your current interest?

My passion is writing.

2.  What is the one thing you wish you could tell the world about being gifted?

It’s not wonderful all the time, and we’re not all the same

3.  What is your greatest strength, and your most difficult weakness as a gifted kid?

Strength–creativity. Weakness–perfectionism.

4.  Are you homeschooled, in a gifted program, or mainstream school?  Which one would you prefer if you were offered the choice?

Mainstream public school, but I would be homeschooled if I had the choice, believe me!

5.  Do you  want to hide being gifted or celebrate it?

Celebrate it, but not to an obnoxious degree.

6. Do you have a mentor?  And if so, has that helped you grow and learn as a person?

My grandmother has helped me.

7. What’s the one thing you want to accomplish before you become an adult?

I want to come to terms with my flaws.

8. If you were able to instantly change the word “Gifted” to something different, what would you pick? Why?

I would choose Advanced, because it’s clearer as to the meaning of the term.

9. What do you want us to know about you?

I’m sixteen and 2e (I also have Asperger’s syndrome).

10. If you were given the chance to be on the first colony ship off earth, would you go?  Why?

No! I have too many ambitions on this planet.

11.  Are all kids gifted?

All kids are talented, but not all are gifted.

12. Tell us what it feels like to be you.

It’s hard because I can be very insecure, but it’s also fun because I’m constantly getting new ideas.

Thank you for sharing Minerva!
