Meet Our Gifted Kids: Introducing Mercury

Meet Mercury: quick-witted, concise, and comfortable with brevity.  Reading his response made me laugh a little because he sounds a lot like my husband, Mr. Genius in the concise way he responds.

1.  What is your passion or your current interest?

AI  (I’m assuming this means working on/with artificial intelligence.)

2.  What is the one thing you wish you could tell the world about being gifted?

Being gifted isn’t like feeling smart. It is everyone else being very dumb.

3.  What is your greatest strength, and your most difficult weakness as a gifted kid?

My greatest strength is my brain. My greatest weakness is being social.

4.  Are you homeschooled, in a gifted program, or mainstream school?  Which one would you prefer if you were offered the choice?

I am homeschooled, and want to stay homeschooled.

5.  Do you  want to hide being gifted or celebrate it?

I want to celebrate giftedness, but the general populace is too unbelieving.

6. Do you have a mentor?  And if so, has that helped you grow and learn as a person?

Mentor yes, my mother. She help me learn to learn. And to enjoy learning.

7. What’s the one thing you want to accomplish before you become an adult?

Making an AI.

8. If you were able to instantly change the word “Gifted” to something different, what would you pick? Why?

Getting sick of people asking ‘Oh yeah?’ in a rude tone. Why? Because it is very common and even when you push some people way down back in their place, they still don’t believe you.

9. What do you want us to know about you?

That ageism sticks.

10. If you were given the chance to be on the first colony ship off earth, would you go?  Why?

I wouldn’t like to go off earth, I would like to go to the bottom of the ocean instead and make a colony there.

11.  Are all kids gifted?

No. But the education system makes it harder to have a smarter populace.

12. Tell us what it feels like to be you.

I fit in with older people better than people my age.

Thank you for giving us your viewpoint Mercury!
